When is a Dollar not a Dollar?

Today was a beautiful day in sunny little Delaware. The sun was out, the snow went away, and I, feeling adventurous, decided to take my loving family to lunch and then to the park. It true American fashion I did what any red blooded citizen does, and i hit the drive thru at the local Mickey D's along the way. one happy meal, one small coke, one sweet tea, two double cheeseburgers, and a small fry, everything from the dollar menu except the happy meal. I glance at the screen as the not so polite teller reads it back, as if she has the hardest job in the world, and notice the double cheeseburgers are $1.19.... So what gives? How can something be on the dollar menu, and cost more then a dollar? Thats like going into a Dollar Tree and being charged more then a dollar, you'd flip your lid. Or along thr same lines as the 99 Cent store at the beach... charging 1.50 for something... it just doesn't happen.

It urks me to think that a com pany can falsely advertise something, by hiding it in the guise of something called a dollar menu, but in fact charging you more. What if I'd have had exact change? The truth is I tealized something today about myself that would never have happened years ago. I've become socially lazy and inept. Years ago i would have argued this point right there int he trive thru and refused to pay the extra 19 cents, and then would have escilated the situation for months and months just to strive out on some foolharty cause, but today I just paid it, and grumbled to myself as i drove away, not wanting to get into an agrument with a retard stuck on drive thru who needs a calculator to do math and little pictures on the buttons to operate a cash register. I hate the contrariness of the society we now live in.

Gun Control for Babes in Toyland.

Why is it that whenever there's a cause to rally behind that could effect the nation in a profound way, a group of people, whom I will describe in a second, always seem to rally behind a cause they've done no research for, knowing that when they win and it don't turn out exactly how their convoluted minds have warped it, that they will be the loudest to complain.
From here on out in this post I will refer to them as "Babes in Toyland" or BIT's for short, because in retrospect, that's what they are. A group of childish self centered minds that have a clouded view of the way the world actually is, and have some fantasy as to how the world should work. BIT's can usually usually be found lurking in very select groups, and have a few identifying traits listed here in no particular order;

1) they tend to do some form of chemical substance considered illegal for recreational use, and when they do consume whatever substance is their substance of choice, they believe they are the greatest thing on earth, and are fully apprised of all the facts and nothing but the facts on every situation they want to discuss.

2) they are usually young and have never really had to endure the hardships that actually await them in life. this could be brought on by a few factors, but is primarily from living a very spoiled childhood and adolescent life.

3) they usually surround themselves with people who follow the same mold, but will follow their lead, only as long as they provide a use, whether it be the facilitating of a dwelling, the drug of choice, a ride, a job, or whatever.

So these BIT's in my life, have taken up rallying behind the new proposed ban on assault weapons. While I firmly believe in a persons right to bare arms, the proposed bill would permanently ban "Weapons specifically designed to facilitate war, and provide no use in hunting of any wild animals currently residing in North America."
This list of proposed weapons includes guns like Israeli made Uzis, AK-47's, M134a Vulcan (mini Gatling gun), AK-72's, M-16's, M-4's, Desert Eagle .50 Auto, and several others. Note that these guns already cannot be used in the United States outside of a Registered Gun Range, and could never be used for hunting, and therefore reside OUTSIDE of a citizens amended rights.

Now, although the BIT's do not own any of these guns, but do own guns in general, they see any attempt to regulate guns, that they discuss while high as a bad thing, because it means that they may not be able to brandish said gun to make themselves seem cooler ( and this promoting the EXACT reason why we need gun laws, RETARDS. )
Then, these babes in toyland want to try to spit their uninformed half truths as propaganda and rally other BIT's to their cause, which they normally accomplish with the use of whatever illegal substance they use to warp their own precious little worlds, and never realize that the actual world spends its time laughing at them out of pity, and as soon as someone challenges their notion with actual facts of the situation, they use stupid arguments to try and keep their fragile egos alive.

Take this public service announcement with more then a grain of salt people. If you read this and discover you are a BIT, its not to late to change. You can seek out a friend, a neighbor, or a colleague and ask them for help, and they will be more then happy to tutor you on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you can gladly get you head out of your ass and start contributing to the REAL world.
To those who don't fit this category, It's safe to say you know someone who does, and although its enjoyable to laugh at them, sooner or later it just gets tiring, and gives you a headache. Pull this person aside, let them know, show them the signs, and hopefully soon, they too will be on their way to recovery.

Looking Back, and Glancing Forward...

They say you never will know where your heading, until you know where you've come from. Recently, in moments of self reflection, I've found myself contemplating my past as I run across shattered remnants of my days of misspent youth. Now, that's not to say that I regret my past, because I firmly believe that you should never regret your decisions, but you should learn from them and move forward, as every choice has lead you down the path that is your life. Had you not made some of those bad choices, you may not have been in the place and time that you were when you made some of the most fantastic memories. But i digress.

I am an avid member of MySpace, and from time to time, even I am plagued with friend requests. Lately, I accepted one from someone who looked like an interesting soul, and in doing so, became curious. This particular person could have been anyone really, more of a strange place, weird time kind of phenomena that occurs in this world, which lead me to realize some of the people in their friends list, are the same people that i used to hang out with when I was young and more stupid then I am now, and A lot less responsible then the person that I am today. the thing that perplexes me, is that these people still look exactly the same, and judging by the pictures and posts, they act the same too. It amazes me that none are in jail, or that more aren't dead from overdoses and violence, and it makes me long for some of the wild times I used to have, but grateful that i got out alive. I guess kids will do that to you, and in my thoughts I realize that i haven't lost anything, but I've willingly replaced those party times (I still have some from time to time) with very happy memories of my wife and my children, and they make me smile and laugh, without the fear of waking up missing my wallet, my spleen, or having a burning sensation when I pee.

Sparrow Takes Flight

I know what your thinking, "oh great another blog," but before you pre-judge what you are about to read, let me tell you what makes this blog different; Me.

Now you're thinking, "Oh I've read that before," just as i know i have as well, but in this case I can honestly say that I am more like, and unlike anyone you'll ever meet. Still reasonably young, with two lifetimes worth of experiences. This blog will be an expression of my own soul, and how my past experiences have lead me to look at certain aspects of the world in which I live. I will use this, my own little web space, while not forsaking all other web spaces (and believe me when I say I do have others, just like everyone else who jumped on the MySpace /Face Book /Live Journal bandwagon), but this one is different, its mine and mine alone, and with it I will allow you an introspective glimpse into the world around me. A world filled with psychoanalytical commentary about music, movies, popular culture, sports, the Delaware community, travel, politics, and and just what I think is wrong with society, but more so, this dreamers opinions on how it can be fixed.
So with that I welcome you, and i know that once you start, this journey of voyeuristic prose will become more addicting then water in the Sahara; Thirsty yet?
